Globe Award Laureates 2010

Sustainability Research Award

Antrix Corporation, ISRO, India

Antrix Corporation fully deserves the Globe Sustainability Research Award for its exceptional contributions, which provide sustainable livelihoods to the rural poor in India, and reduces their vulnerability to climate risks. The work is both original and practical. I am especially pleased that it is an excellent application of the Sustainomics framework, showing how companies and individuals can and must act now, to make development more sustainable. The project has yielded significant benefits with respect to all three aspects of the sustainable development triangle – economic, social and environmental. Striving together, we can make the planet a better and safer place for our children and grand children. - says Professor Mohan Munasinghe, jury Chairman, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate as Vice Chair of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Chairman of MIND.

Sustainability Innovation Award

MAS Intimates Ltd, Sri Lanka

“We are delighted to select MAS Intimates Thurulie as this year’s winner of the Globe Award for Sustainable Innovation. The effort by MAS Intimates Thurulie and Marks & Spencer to create a sustainable AND world-class production facility represents an innovation that will impact the global supply chain. It exemplifies the big bold bets in sustainable innovation that are rewriting the rules of business – and improving the world for the better”, says jury group Chairman Philip DesAutels, Microsoft’s Director of Academic Evangelism and researcher at Bentley University.

Sustainable City Award

Curitiba, Brazil

“The City of Curitiba shows maturity in their understanding of sustainable city development – both regarding policy and implementation. The holistic approach is well framed and managed in order to create a strong and healthy community, integrating the environmental dimension with other dimensions like intellectual, cultural, economic and social", the jury states in its motivation.

Sustainability Reporting Award

CLP Holdings Ltd, Hong Kong

“From a very strong short list the jury has selected CLP Holdings as the winner of the Globe award for sustainable reporting for 2010. We were impressed with the report, the superb web presence, and the integrity shown by disclosing the bad news, as well as the good news stories around investment in renewable energy generation and staff safety amongst others. As a jury we were disappointed by the assurance process that CLP Holdings employed but this award is about showing leadership, not a beauty contest and with this in mind we believe that hopefully we can influence others to report as well as CLP Holdings and add thorough and credible verification and assurance.”, the jury states in its motivation.
